The Lady Rattlers traveled to Raton Saturday for Raton’s second district match of the volleyball seasoned came away with one in the win column.
Coach Tina Dorrance told KRTN we get behind and get into a panic mode and tense up and make mistakes instead of calming down and playing a relaxed game like they did in game two Saturday afternoon. The Lady Tigers played a very good game in game two as they took the lead early on with good serves and passes to make the plays over the net.
As game one got underway Raton stayed close and even had the game tied late at 18. Raton however just couldn’t pull it together to make the plays to win the game. Game two was a different story as Raton took an early lead and played the kind of ball they were capable of making blocks at the net and keeping the ball in play until Tucumcari made the mistakes of missed passes or hits off the side of their hands.
In both games three and four Raton went into the panic mode as Coach Dorrance calls it and they made several mistakes allowing Tucumcari to get the lead and hold on to it. At one point in game three Raton had a four point lead but couldn’t hold on to it as Tucumcari made the plays at the net to put the ball in the holes.
Raton will travel to Santa Rosa on Thursday. Coach Dorrance feels that Santa Rosa is probably the best team in District 5AAA right now and she is going to try and get put more pressure on her team to play through those time when they are a couple of points down.
