The rains held off for the first quarter and then a burst of moisture coincided with a burst of offensive output for West as the Dons poured it on to defeat the Raton Tigers 59 -7 in Friday night football, October 2nd in Las Vegas.
Quarterback Jordan Martinez and the Dons offense had their best game of the season and when it wasn’t the Dons defense stifling the Tigers, the wet conditions kept the Tigers in check with numerous fumbles, three of them lost. Martinez finished with 250 yards through the air and the Dons rushing game amassed over 300 yards. Martinez himself accounted for six of the Don’s touchdowns with three rushing and three passing scores.
The Raton TD came before the rains early in the second quarter when the Tigers went on a 12 play, 65 yard march culminating in a three yard scoring pass from Dustin Segura to Jonathan Cabriales.
The Tigers are 2-4 on the season and go into a bye week this week before going on the road to Socorro for a game on October 16.
