Driver in High Speed Chases Eludes Police

Raton Police positively identified Alan Martinez shortly after 8:00 p.m. Wednesday night. Officers had prior knowledge that Martinez is wanted by New Mexico and Colorado Probation and Parole for violations involving dangerous drugs and aggravated fleeing from law enforcement. 

Martinez seeing police fled in a blue Honda car taking police on a winding chase through the streets of central Raton. A passenger in the Martinez vehicle had enough and jumped from the moving vehicle in the 100 block of Park Ave. Martinez continued his wild ride taking police under the north underpass into the area around Tenaja and Sugarite then around the cemetery where he almost ran over Sheriff Deputy Bill Laporte who was assisting police in trying to stop Martinez. 

Martinez then took the chase south of Sugarite to East Cook and East Clark where he finally eluded police long enough to ditch his car in a driveway on East Clark and Guadalupe. A few minutes later Martinez was spotted running on First Street where he ducked into an alley way between First Street and Second Street south of Park Ave. 

Police are continuing to be on the lookout for Martinez and will charge him with several new violations after the Wednesday night’s incident. Martinez will be charged with Attempt to commit a Felony; Trafficking, Aggravated Battery on a Police Officer, Aggravated Fleeing, False Imprisonment, Reckless Driving, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Unlawful Possession of Switchblades.
