In a recent blurb published in “Recoil” a shooters magazine a recent unnamed visitor to Raton royally blasted the City of Raton.
The blurb came to the attention of City Manager Scott Berry who then shared the article with KRTN as well as his response to the blurb. KRTN also wants to share this with our readers.
I wonder if the person who wrote the article actually came into town or if someone shared their views about Raton with him?
Mr berry fix ur eyes and ride around every street in raton I will even give u 50 dollars in gas money sir call me 5754459881
People need to look around this is very true raton has gone so far down hill it’s amazing to me how many people can’t see this look at what just happened at the school today sick that people can’t see the truth
Absolutely the article was written in poor taste. But let’s be honest, he’s right! Raton, is the highest taxed county in the state with nothing to show for it. So we have statutes showing appreciation, that doesn’t provide needed resolve for this town. In the last three years, we have had 3 murders over drugs, in this small town of approx. 6,000-8,000 residents. In a statistic rate this makes Raton a bad place to be. If Raton would spend there money on reforming and upgrading this town it could be a great place to live. But until Raton starts holding people accountable for their choices this town will not change. Raton, has beautiful scenery until you drive through town and look at boarded up building’s that should have been demolished instead. Reality is, the article states exactly what everyone who drives through Raton thinks. His article is not the problem. The problem is the people in this town who choose to not want better. Who would rather stay stagnant than require change!
This says more about the author, who managed to sound relatively normal until his last comments which revealed his character faults more than he probably realized, than it does about Raton. And it also says something about the editors of this magazine who approved this for publication.
When people come to Raton now days the do see run down trailerpark and boarded up window and lots of empty buildings and yes we do have a drug problem here but like I have said over and over again this town needs something or anything to bring in more jobs not false hope like the racetrack to get a job here in Raton is very hard now days and the pay is not good enough to pay rent and other monthly bills one might have don’t get me wrong I love it here but if some changes don’t happen soon not me or anyone will have a place to call home wake up everyone Raton is dieing
I am a proponent of the shooting sports and shot trap and have used the Whittington center for many years. Each fall we at KBKZ put on the Southwest Regional Country Showdown at the Historic Shuler Theater in Raton that draws the winners of 7 state Country Showdown contests. Our winner has the last two years gone on to win the national Country Showdown Contest https://www.countryshowdown.com/,
Last years second place finisher(out of California) was our previous years winner. Her comment as she arrived at the Shuler “Raton isn’t easy to get to but is sure worth the trouble” . I am sorry that your writer had such a poor view of Raton but as someone that lived in many places before coming back here to raise my family I can say every town i lived in has it’s own problems. I feel that either your writer should bother to take a good look at somewhere or possibly just shut up.
Wow…just wow! I can’t believe someone published something so distasteful…
