TRINIDAD — An Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) between Las Animas County and Cokedale was delayed because of language changes in the International Code Council’s building code. During the regular meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 18, the county’s attorney, Dixie Newnam, recommended the delay until the changes could be written into the IGA. The county commission voted 3-0 to accept their attorney’s advice.
In an unapproved IGA with the City of Trinidad, the Las Animas Board of County Commissioners voted 3-0 to defer approval until the September 8th regular county commission meeting, in order to add additional language to the agreement. The IGA addresses a shared use of the county’s building inspector, Kent Robinson.
Commissioner Anthony Abeyta was chosen by Commissioner Mack Louden and Commissioner Gary Hill, to be the new 2015 Legislative Committee member to Colorado Counties, Inc. (CCI). Abeyta first nominated Hill, who declined saying he was the present member to the CCI. Hill then nominated Abeyta. Louden seconded the nomination and the vote carried 3-0 with Abeyta voting for himself.
In other action items, the commission approved with a 3-0 vote, a contract with the Yocam Pit for the removal of gravel at 50 cents a ton. The contract allows the county to enter the pit, crush and sift the rock, and haul it out.
Bids that were approved were for hot mix asphalt on grant 7628, to be applied on the Gulnar road work. Walsenburg Sand and Gravel won the bid on a 3-0 vote for $833,923. Rear Roofing won the contract for the repair of the airport and shop roof with a bid of $41,250.
In her report to the county commission, county administrator Leann Fabec said representatives from Lockheed Martin were visiting Las Animas County and Trinidad, looking for suppliers and subcontractors in the area. The representatives also visited the airport at noon on Wednesday, August 19.
Becky Bird addressed the commissioners about the needs of the annual Trinidad Round-Up and Rodeo. She requested a special events permit for the rodeo, which will be held Sept. 6 and 7. The permit will allow the Trinidad Round-Up Association to operate a beer garden from 10 am to 6 pm during the event. The commission approved the permit on a 3-0 vote.
Hi Country Liquor was also approved for a liquor license renewal by the county with a 3-0 vote. The business is located on Highway 12.
The board went into executive session at 9:38 am. They reconvened at noon to adjourn.
