Margarito (Mike) Nolan entered into this world on March 5, 1914 in Ocate, NM to Filadelfio Nolan and Emilia Cruz. He went to be with the Lord on August 7, 2015 in Raton, NM.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Alfonso and Rosie Nolan, brother Fernando and Helen Nolan, sister Maxine Stefani and husband Victor, brother George and Marcella Nolan, brother Willie and Elsie Nolan and brother Benjamin Nolan, Margarito’s children Jeannette, Antoinette, Michael and William Nolan.
He is survived by his wife Eva Rascon Nolan wed 74 years this month. His children Sharon, Jessie and Dorella; grandchildren Suzette, Amy, Shara, Maxine, Amelia, Shawn, Brandy Michelle, Nathaniel and John; great grandchildren Kailey, Elion, Joshua, Jane, Tyler, Ryan, Nicholas, Sarah, Jacob, Ernie, Gabriel, Cassandra, Nickolle, Courtney, Dakota, Emily, John, Christina, Dominic and Destiny, Uriah, Simone, Serena Rachel and Alexander; 3 great-great grandchildren Kaylie, Jensen and Atlanta. His brother Phil (Joe) Nolan of Bellflower, CA, sister Julia Sanchez of Cimarron, NM, Elvira Montoya and Helen Garritson of Springer, NM and Raphaelita Lopez of Espanola, NM also survive.
Margarito’s family moved to Miami, NM where he spent his childhood days trapping small game, riding horses and working in apple and cherry orchards and farms. He graduated from Miami High School and after graduation worked in the CCC camps in Wyoming and New Mexico.
Mike and Eva were married on August 19, 1941 in Springer, NM. They left New Mexico and moved to southern California in the early 40’s, then moved to Eugene, Oregon for 13 years, then resided in Northern California from 1990-1999. Mike and Eva then moved to Wichita, Kansas to live near their daughter Sharon in October of 1999. Mike was 85 years old and began working for the Kansas Senior Work Program where he did yardwork and small carpentry repair for seniors. He was honored with a plaque on his 90th birthday for being the oldest Senior citizen in the program that year.
Mike was an ordained minister, he preached, played guitar, loved to sing and write poetry and enjoyed cooking and baking pies. At 101 years his wish was to return to New Mexico, to be near his sisters and remaining family where he took sick with pneumonia and passed on August 7, 2015.
A wonderful Husband, Father, Brother and Friend to all. This world’s loss is heaven’s gain.
Cremation has taken place.
Services will be held Saturday, August 22, 2015 at 10:00 am at the Assembly of God Church in Springer, New Mexico with inurnment to follow at the Springer Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements for Margarito Nolan are under the direction of the Alderette-Pomeroy Funeral Home of Raton.
