Mary Evangeline Serna, 95 of Cimarron, New Mexico passed away on August 09, 2015 in Raton, New Mexico.
Visitation will be held Saturday the 15th of August at 9:00AM, at the Sister Hildergaurde Parish Hall in Cimarron, New Mexico. Rosary and Funeral services to follow at 9:30 and 10:00am, with Father Emmanuel Izuka officiating. Private Inurnment for the family will follow at a later date. Funeral arrangements by Alderette-Pomeroy Funeral Home.
Vangie Serna was born on July 13, 1920 to Ruben & Luisita Vigil of Springer, New Mexico. Vangie married Vicente Serna on July 02, 1938; they were married for 64 years. Vangie and Vincent went on to have 11 children; 9 boys and 2 girls. They were blessed with 24 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and numerous great-great grandchildren. Vangie was proud that she served as one of the original “Rosie the Riveters” at the shipyards of Oakland, California during WWII. The family moved back to Cimarron in 1955 where they lived happily together for the remainder of their lives. Vangie worked for the Public Schools for over 10 years before retiring. Vangie was devoted to her Catholic faith and was a lifelong member of the Immaculate Conception Church of Cimarron, New Mexico.
Vangie is preceded in death by her parents Ruben & Luisita Vigil, husband Vicente Serna and children Judith Serna, Carlos Serna and brothers Arthur, Ruben, Apalonio, Anselmo, Greg Vigil, and Sister Bertha Jaramillo.
Vangie is survived by her sister Eufemia Portillos, and children Ernest and wife Jeanne Serna, Luis and wife Gloria Serna, Patricia and Husband Dan Dorrance Jr, Daughter in-law Sarah Serna, David and wife Mary Serna, Thomas and wife Michelle Serna, John and wife Marybeth Serna, Anthony and wife Emily Serna, Richard Serna and fiancé Terri Chavez, and Samuel and wife Margaret Serna, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Colfax General Long Term Care Facility, Immaculate Conception Church of Cimarron, and family and friends throughout Colfax County.
