Raton City Commissioners heard from Alfred Sintas about traffic on east 10th Street before moving through the short agenda Tuesday evening.
Sintas was complaining about the traffic on east 10th Street that has been diverted off of Clayton Road or the interstate and the accidents that the extra traffic has caused due to the sharp turns and narrow bridge in that area. Sintas requested speed bumps be placed in the roadway but City Manager Scott Berry told Sintas he would meet with him and discuss the situation since speed bumps can be both a cure and a problem.
David Stafford spoke about the tree-planting project that Grow Raton is working on. This year the group wants to place trees in front of the El Portal lot on Park Avenue. Commissioners approved the project and instructed Berry to help in any way the city could with the project.
Commissioners approved a letter of agreement with Presbyterian Health Insurance for the group insurance plan, which was budgeted for 12% increase in premiums but has so far been just over 1%. With the approval the city will enter into open enrollment and at that time may see an increase depending on the plans employees choose. One of the steps taken to control the costs was to increase the deductible from $500 to $750. (Link to the Letter of Agreement Presbyterian Health Ins)
