As a long time NM resident and fly fisherman I am growing a little weary of the pictures of kids with “their” catches. Week in and week out the parade of dead fish and toothy smiles attesting to what I’m not sure. My personal observation over almost 40 years, including yours truly with our son, has been parent catches fish and holds rod with kid when the inevitable hook up comes. Once at the seven springs hatchery I watched dumbfounded as parents were helping fisher- kid fish right in the raceway.

If I sound too grinchy I apologize: I think we should be doing a little more to educate, support, catch and release and emphasize other aspects of our resource instead of going for the ” money shot ” and encouraging the habit of catch and kill albeit of stockers.

PS I confronted the cheats resulting in death threats.

Thanks for all the good work you do.
