A Flea In Her Ear – fast paced farce at SCRT plus Prof. Hill’s River City flim flam

by Joy Gipson
WJ 250x55TRINIDAD — A Flea In Her Ear, a production of the Southern Colorado Repertory Theatre, is a high energy comedy of errors and mistaken identity.  It is a romp of a farce with fast paced, witty dialogue that often has double meanings.  The action evolves around the shady French Hotel Coq d’Or known for its illicit liaisons and ridiculous revolving bed.
Actor Chris Krenning of New York plays two roles in this production:  Victor, a stuffy reticent husband and Poche, a drunken buffoon of a bellman at the hotel, who is Victor’s identical lookalike.  Chris convincingly shifts between characters with humor and ease.
This crazy plot quickly escalates into a hilarious crescendo of misunderstandings caused by Victor’s jealous wife Yvonne, who is intent on exposing him in a secret love affair (which she is actually guilty of.)  The cast is energetic and keeps the play moving along at a fast clip.  There is no snoozing during this production.  Your mind is on high alert trying to keep up with the characters and their witty banter.
This play is well directed by Fred Vaugeois, well acted and well worth your time.  Catch a performance this month on July10, 11 & 25 at 7:30 pm or a matinee on July 11 & 25 at 2:30 pm.
The Music Man is still running in July with a  matinee production on July12 at 2:30 pm and an evening performance on July 24 at 7:30.  The Music Man is a fast, fun frolic of a play where “Professor” Harold Hill’s flim-flam plans are foiled when he meets prim, proper, and pretty Marion, the librarian who disarms him with her wit and cunning charm.
The intimate setting of the theater and the fresh energy of the cast transports you to 1912 River City, Iowa, where you will root for the “Professor,” the librarian, and the kids’ band to win over the rest of the town so they can continue to sing and dance happily ever after.  It’s high energy; it’s funny and captivating.  The director and the cast have captured the true essence of the play.  Bravo!  Don’t miss it.
By July 24 you will be able to see all three of this season’s plays in one weekend.  Go to www.scrtheatre.com for a comprehensive schedule.  The theater is at 131 W. Main Street in Trinidad.  Call 719-846-4765 for ticket information.
