Ophelia M. Fernandez, age 93, passed away at the Trinidad Inn Nursing Home on May 6, 2015.
She was born in Weston, CO, on February 7, 1922 to Clara (Trujillo) and Cleofus Marquez.
She was employed for 5 years at Mt. San Rafael Hospital in the laundry department and then at the Trinidad State Nursing Home in housekeeping for 5 years.
She was a self taught talented artist who could paint sceneries, portraits, still-life, and flowers in oil, water color, pencil and charcoal mediums. She loved to cook and taught her children to do the same.
Preceding her in death are parents, Clara and Cleofus Marquez, husband, Fred Fernandez, infant daughter Esther, son George Fernandez, brothers Eloy Marquez, Tony Marquez and Charlie Marquez.
Survivors are sons, Ed Fernandez, Trinidad, Fred Fernandez, Aurora, Michael (Theresa) Fernandez, CO. Springs, Carl Fernandez, Trinidad Norman (Janet) Fernandez, Englewood, daughter Esther (Alex) Cruz, Cheyenne, WY., sister in law Alice Gutierrez, Pueblo, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 2PM-6PM at the Comi Chapel.
Funeral Services will be Thursday, May 14, 2015 at 10AM at the Comi Chapel with Pastor Bill Glidden officiating.
Interment will follow at the Trinidad Catholic Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearer is Burt Fernandez, and Robert Fernandez
Active pallbearers are Alex Cruz, Michael Cruz, Matt Cruz, Arnold Marquez, Marcus Fernandez and Steve Fernandez.
