Colfax County – On Sunday, May 3, 2015 around 10:00 a.m., the New Mexico State Police responded to the scene of a single vehicle rollover crash. This crash occurred at mile marker 10 on New Mexico State Road 58, east of Cimarron, New Mexico.
The initial investigation revealed a 2002 Ford was traveling eastbound on State Road 58 and rolled at mile marker 10. There were four occupants in the vehicle. One occupant, identified as Silvestre De La Trinidad Gomez, twenty-four years of age from Weston, Colorado, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Alcohol was determined a factor in the crash. The New Mexico State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit assisted in the investigation.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as Demecio Acuna-Garcia, thirty-four years of age from Cimarron, New Mexico, was arrested. Mr. Acuna-Garcia was charged with homicide by vehicle, aggravated DWI resulting in great bodily injury, open container of alcohol, concealing identity, roadways laned for traffic, and drivers to be licensed.
This vehicle crash is still under investigation.
