Martha Alwilda Leatherman, age 93, of Raton NM passed quietly from this life and in the next on Tuesday April 28, 2015 surrounded by family.
She was born July 31, 1921 in Raton NM, the daughter of William Riley Bacon and Nettie Lierer-Bacon. She loved being a wife and mother although she occasionally worked outside the home as a retail clerk when money got tight. She was a member of the first Christian Church in Raton and was very active with the Extension Club, where over the years her crafts won her many Blue Ribbons and People’s Choice Awards. She was very talented with many different forms of creative crafts and sewing.
Wilda is preceded in death by her parents, husband Arnol E. (Gene) Leatherman, brothers Henry and William Bacon, sons Harvey and Dale Leatherman, and daughters Anna Trantham and Mary Leatherman. She is survived by her grandchildren: Harold Leatherman and wife Joanne of Tuttle OK, Ray Leatherman and wife Jodi of Guthrie AZ, Ivy Leatherman of Mobile Ala, Joy Leatherman of Silver City NM, Wendy Griffin and husband Dennis Martinez, Shelly Barber and Douglas Trantham all of Raton NM and Darrel and Tim Leatherman of Albuquerque NM. Great grandchildren, Kevin, Cassie, Michael, Matthew, Brooke, Bruce, Diedra, Belle, Brandy, Loretta, April, Justin, Russell, Rebecca, Devin, Jacob, Lawrence, Maddy, Jarrett, Maegan, Harlan and Jordan, and thirteen and 1/2 great -great grandchildren. Also left behind are special friends Alberta Blouin and Pearl Cunico, her cousin Juanita Wiseman, nephews Dwayne and Hurley Bacon and her nieces Charliene Barnes and Audry Milkovich.
She was a beautiful soul and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
A memorial celebration of her life will be held Wednesday May 6, 2015 at 6:00 P.M. at the Yaksich-Long Funeral Home Chapel.
