Janet Iacobelli and John Davidson from the NENM Educational Foundation (The Learning Center) visited with Billy D. at KRTN during both Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s “This, That and The Other” to update everyone on the progress and to ask for interested people to help re-energize the facility.
Located at the corner of First and Park in Raton, The Learning Center was born in the late 1990s after Sunwest Bank donated its operations center and the NENM Education Foundation, Inc. was born. For some ten years, distance learning programs from Leslie University helped teachers/students obtain their Masters locally. Most recently NM Highlands University was located in the facility, but did not have the funding stream to keep the branch open, however they did make improvements to the building of over $100,000.
The building itself is in very good condition and is in the process of being deeded back to the City to be used for educational purposes. Early exploratory talks with TSJC have been positive and remain an option for the future.
A Board is forming to explore options and those interested in serving on the all-volunteer body, please email a letter of interest, or resume, or both to rji@bacavalley.com or call Janet Iacobelli at 575-707-1565.
