Men Who Steal Goats. . .

Note:  KRTN does not usually print letters sent to us. However, the content and subject matter of this letter are vitally important to not only one Colfax County resident, but to all who care about the place in which we live. (See Updates at end of letter.)

LETTER TO THE DEAR KRTN LISTENERS

February 27, 2015

My niece, Holli Faulkner who lives with her husband Nathan on the tiny Faulkner Farm in Miami (just outside of Springer) is in a very serious medical state, due to the theft of her 7 precious pet goats, who simply vanished into thin air from their farm around February 10^th.  Holli and Nathan have scoured their 40 acres every day for almost 3 weeks, and there is no sign of them, or any evidence that they were killed by predators.  Prominent ranchers and county officials believe they were taken.  Stolen.  Everyone is in shock that this could happen in peaceful Miami, New Mexico.

I am writing this letter, because my niece Holli is incapable of dealing with the loss of these goats who she bottle-fed as babies.  Holli suffers from a brain aneurysm injury, along with a separate equally serious brain trauma that causes her to vomit uncontrollably for days when she is stressed, when she is in pain, when she is suffering emotionally like she is with the loss of these goats.  Nevertheless, she has been outside day and night, in blinding snow searching and calling for these goats.  She cannot be comforted.  I want to write this letter to plead to anyone who knows who took the goats, or where they are, or how we can retrieve them – hopefully reaching the goat thieves themselves, in order to beg them to return the goats before my niece is lost forever.  

I want those who took them to know that Holli has suffered great loss.  In the prime of her life, she has lost her health, she has lost her career as a registered veterinary technician, she has lost her mother, Joni Scott, the world’s greatest advocate for animals, and very recently Holli miscarried a 7-month old stillborn baby girl.  The loss of the goats is too much.  Way too much.  

Please contact the cell numbers below with information, or simply drop the goats off in a safe place and we will pick them up – no questions, no charges.  Please have mercy and do the right thing.  Do it soon, please.  And if they are no longer living, please tell us, so that Holli and Nathan can have closure.

3/15/15: Dear Billy D and our friends at KRTN:

Holli wanted me to write you a note to thank you for all the unexpected blessings your announcement of “Holli’s Missing Goats” has brought into her life.  While we had all hoped to learn of the fate of the goats, none of us in our wildest dreams imagined what would transpire.  No, Holli and Nathan have not learned anything about the missing goats, but what they have learned has proven to be far more valuable.  They have learned about human compassion, generosity and the kindness of friends and strangers.  First complete strangers from Raton offered their own precious goats, Marigold and Buttercup.  Last week a friend offered Holli a bottle-baby.  Then generous Miami and Springer neighbors “from near and far” joined together to give them money they can use for their new goats.  These acts have humbled Holli and Nathan with gratitude that’s hard for them to express in words.  Heartfelt thanks go to:

Paula and JR, Terri, Lisa and R.W. Hampton, Keith Walters, Jeff Anslinger, Susan Potter, Kelly and Ted Lyster, Debbie Sauble and several others who wished to remain anonymous.

You people are unbelievable.  But I know that’s how it is in a small community.  You can leave – you can come home.  You may recognize faces from years past – or sadly you may not.  But one thing for sure.  You will always be family.

3/3/15: You can’t know how much your sharing my letter has meant to this family – to my Holli.  Your Website is just great, and I love how you opened the story – people should care about the place in which they live. And by golly people do.  Tonight a lady named Paula called to offer Holli her two Nigerian dwarf goats – Marigold and Buttercup.  Holli is overjoyed to say the least.  It is just so heartwarming to know people care about people and can are willing to give up their own precious pet goats to someone they felt needed them more.
