Wow what a nail bitter it was as the Cimarron Lady Ram’s Jessica Pittman sinks the go ahead free throws with only four seconds left on the clock during the District 5A Championship ball game Monday night in Springer’s Sim Brown Gymnasium.
The game never was a given as Springer took an early lead but never could maintain a solid lead as Cimarron came back time and time again to tie the ball game. Cimarron however wasn’t able to take a lead and maintain it more than a trip or two down the court. Shooting did haunt the Cimarron Lady Rams in the third quarter as they struggled to get the ball through the net. The girls were taking the shots but they just rolled around the rim and fell wide.
These two teams had met a number of times this season with different outcomes each time. Both teams will now look to the state tourney and a trip to Albuquerque.

It was a totally different game for the boys as Springer took an early lead and never looked back Monday evening in Sim Brown Gym in Springer as they hosted the Maxwell Bears for the District 5A championship game.
Coach Eloy Brazil told KRTN that the last time these two teams met Maxwell played a tough man to man defense which was the only way to keep the outside shooting down. Tonight they did the same but Springer was ready. What hurt the Bears were the turnovers according to coach Brazil.
The Red Devils played a fast paced game putting the press to the Bears which helped to create the turnovers. Many of the turnovers resulted in scores which widened the spread to more than 35 points late in the game to put a running clock in effect. Springer lead the game 77-41 at the final buzzer to take their place as District 5A champions. Both teams will now look forward to moving on to the state tourney next week.
