Melanie Suzette McCarty went to be with the Lord Thursday January 29, 2015. She was born August 13, 1946 in Dawson, NM the daughter of Davis and Marian Buttram-Yob.
Melanie retired from Colfax County, as the administrator of the detention center. She was a loving mother, wife, sister, aunt and grandmother. She loved and cared for her family deeply.
Melanie was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Linda Watkins. Melanie is survived by her husband of 24 years, William McCarty of the home, daughters Sunnie Sawaya of Phoenix, AZ, Tenelle and Jason Phillips of Raton, and one son, Joshua Sawaya of Long Island, NY. Two sisters Martha Sawaya (Shaheen), Nancy Gomez (Noby) of Raton, one brother, Tim Bustos (Margaret) of Vernal, UT, and one brother-in-law, Tom Watkins of Lakin, KS. Five grandchildren, who were the light of her life, CJ, Madison, Abigail, Sarah, and Samantha. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held for family Saturday, February 7, 2015, at 4:00 P.M. at the First Baptist Church in Raton. Melanie’s friends are welcome.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to your favorite Christian charity of your choice, in Melanie’s name.
