We had a tough time rebounding noted Raton Head Coach Victor Esparza as the scrappy Lady Demons put one in the win column Tuesday evening against Raton.
The game was never in the basket for either team as Raton took a quick lead but Des Moines came back and tied it for the first time at four. With only six players on the team Des Moines coach Jeffery Connell noted his girls didn’t have the drive early in the game but came to life in the second half of the game. By the fourth quarter the Lady Demons took control of the game and started finding the basket each trip down the court.
The Lady Tigers on the other hand had all their players suited up, both JV and Varsity, with the exception of Brianna Pais who turned her ankle in Saturday’s game against Tucumcari. While Coach Esparza could substitute at will the Lady Demons had to stick with it with only one player on the bench.
Coach Esparza noted that the girls had trouble getting inside for the rebounds and allowed the Lady Demons as many as four shots a trip down the court. In the fourth quarter as the Lady Demons heated up the Lady Tigers struggled to find the net as many balls bounced wide off the rim. As the game clock ticked off the seconds the Lady Demons pulled out a to a six point lead and hustled to keep the ball out of the Lady tiger basket. When the buzzer sounded it was Des Moines 42-36 over the Lady Tigers.
