Ida M. Fernandez, age 88, passed away at Parkview Medical Center in Pueblo, CO. on January 8. 2015.
She was born in Trinidad, CO. on November 29, 1926, the daughter of Lorencita (Saiz) and Candelario Barela.
Ida attended area schools. On August 10, 1945, Ida was united in marriage to Alex J. Fernandez in Trinidad, CO. She was the matriarch of her family, and her children and grandchildren were her first priority. She never knew a stranger and always made you feel like you were part of her family. Ida was an excellent cook and no one ever left her home hungry. She loved the outdoors and nature, flowers and collecting rocks. Her graciousness, strength and generosity will be missed by those, whose lives she touched.
Preceding her in death are parents, Lorencita and Candelario Barela, husband Alex Fernandez in 1992, sisters Caroline Trujillo, Dora Clark, and son in law George Fields.
Her survivors are her children, James (Sharon) Fernandez, Trinidad, John (Rita) Fernandez, Trinidad, Yvonne “Bonnie” Fields, Pueblo, Lydia (Daniel) Shea, Trinidad, Arlene (Larry) Robinson, Trinidad, Janet (Brian) Smith, Trinidad, grandchildren, Brenda, Karen, Laurie Jo, Stephen, James, Aaron, Danny, Lisa, Megan, Janie, Jessica, Alex, 10 great grandchildren, brother Joseph (Joanne) Barela, Denver, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 3PM-7PM at the Comi Chapel.
Rosary will be recited Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at 7PM at the Comi Chapel.
Funeral Mass will be Thursday, January 15, 2015 at 10AM at Holy Trinity Church.
Interment with Rite of Committal will follow at the Trinidad Catholic Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be her grandsons, Stephen, James, Aaron, Danny, Mark, Jeffery, Gene and Alex.
