Amy Christine Glenn, age 90 of Raton, NM, also well known as “Blondie” passed away Monday January 5, 2015 in Raton. She was born December 20, 1924 in Madeley, England the daughter of Jean C. and Amy Griffith-Baker.
At the young age of fourteen she was taken out of school to work in the :War effort” during WWII, making uniforms and building engines for fighter plains. She became a war bride at the age of twenty one coming to the United States on the Queen Mary in 1945. She married twice, having fifteen children with only six surviving. She and her first husband raised and raced grey hound dogs in Colorado. After meeting her second husband in 1955, they moved here to Raton. In the sixty years here she worked at Frey’s Furniture ande Sands Motel. She enjoyed many outdoor activities and spending time with family. She was a very strong woman with a loving and spunky personality. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
Amy is preceded in death by one brother Alexander, three sisters Lilly, Maggie and Dagmar of England, daughter Barbara Townsend of Cahokia, ILL, and many close friends. She is survived by three sons, Robert Bleakley and wife Diana of La Luz, NM, James Bleakley and wife Jane of Moriorty, NM, and Richard Bleakley and wife Kim of Killeen, TX. Two daughters, Sandra Lesley of Greeley, CO., and Chrissie Butt and husband Jimmie of Brighton, CO. Thirteen grandchildren numerous great grandchildren and many extended family members in England.
Memorial services will be Saturday January 24, 2015 at 1:00 P.M. at the First Baptist Church 225 S. 3rd St. Raton, NM. A private family burial will be in Moriorty, NM, per her last wishes where she will be laid to rest with a small piece of her England.
