Angie Naccarato, transitioned peacefully into her next journey on January 3, 2015. She was 90 years old.
Angie was born on June 17 in Delagua, Colorado to James and Teresa (Tortorelli) Biundo. She was one of seven surviving children. She attended Trinidad schools. She assisted her family on the family farm and helped run the Biundo Sandwich Shop in Pueblo, Colorado. On April 11, 1948, she was united in marriage to Benny F. Naccarato. They had one girl, Marie.
Benny and Angie ran the Isis Theatre in Downtown Trinidad, along with the Naccarato family. After the theatre closed, Angie became a well-known fixture in Trinidad’s downtown retail community, working as a clerk at several local stores. She was employed at Jolten’s Department Store, Hausman’s Drug Store and Riverside Drug for several years. She retired from Riverside Drug when the store closed. She and Ben enjoyed their retirement together until Ben’s death in 1993.
At that time, Angie began a new career, at age 70, that greatly enriched the lives of children in Las Animas County. Angie became a teacher’s aide at Trinidad HeadStart through the Foster Grandparent program. “Grandma Angie” was loved by many children, many of whom continued to visit her long after their years at HeadStart. She was loved by staff and parents at the program, as well. She had a special way with troubled and special needs children who blossomed and flourished under her love and kindness. She loved each of the children in her classes and they truly made Grandma Angie’s life as special as she made theirs.
Angie was known in the community for her incredible baking ability. She was often asked by family and friends to bake her traditional Italian cookies for weddings, showers and graduations. Her biscottis, wine cookies, kiflins and scaledes were legendary. She, along with family and friends, undertook the task of baking cookies for the weddings of her granddaughters. With beaming pride, she made over 100 different types of traditional Italian cookies and pastries for both weddings, an amazing gesture that was treasured by her family and friends.
Angie had a special love for her grandchildren. She spent much time caring for and showering love upon her grandchildren. Her loving gestures were constant whether it meant spending time together, caring for them or having Sunday dinner on the table each week. There was a special love between Angie and her grandchildren and she will be greatly missed by them.
