Leo F. Martinez went home to the Lord on Friday, November 21, 2014.
He was born in Roy, NM on July 27, 1930. He is survived by his wife of 63 years Mary Montoya-Martinez, two sisters Evelyn De Herrera and husband Alfred, and Viola Griego and seven children; Leo and wife Yong of Colorado Springs, CO, Celina and husband Arturo of Bernalillo, Cecilia of Englewood, CO Jose of Ft. Collins, CO Marcy of Albuquerque, Edward and wife Amy of Bernalillo and Virginia and husband Dominic of Algodones. He was blessed with 16 grandchildren, Rebecca and husband Henry, Lena and husband Mark, Salomon and wife Selena, Layla and husband Joey, Daniel, Anitra and fiancé Ray, Mark and wife RaeLee, Steven and wife Tracy, Angelina and husband Dustin, Erika and husband Josh, Michael, Elicia and fiancé Marian, Kristina and husband Dwayne, David, Leona and Analisa. He also had 25 great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Adrian, Matthew, Quentin, Mia, Samantha, Stephen, Dominique, Savannah, Derrick, Alex, Anthony, Aiyana, Danika, Evangeline, Liliana, Isaiah, Isaac, Maya, David, Alexus, Antonio, Damian, Noah and Suchel. He had many nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents Joe and Celina Martinez, brothers Louie, Joe and Sammy and sisters Della Velasquez, Rachel Lujan and Mary Rivera.
Leo was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will truly be missed by all. He retired from Shollenbarger Woodtreating Co. after 42 years and enjoyed working on various projects after retiring in 1994. He was a devout Catholic and until recently attended mass almost daily.
Recitation of the Most Holy Rosary will take place Friday November 28, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. followed by the Mass of the Resurrection at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Springer, NM. Rite of committal and interment will follow at the Springer Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements for Leo F. Martinez are under the direction of the Alderette-Pomeroy Funeral Home of Raton.
