There was never more than a fews points between the two teams the whole game until late when Cimarron took an 8-point lead but never could pull away as Raton battle back to within three and ended this season opener in Raton with a Cimarron win 53-49.
Raton took the early lead and kept it until late in second quarter when Cimarron tied the game at 23 and took a 1-point lead into half time 26-25.
The second half the Lady Tigers struggled a little and lost Sofia Madaleni with a bad leg cramp which Coach Victor Esparza said changed the depth of his bench. Coach Esparza noted they are a young team and need more practice but this game will give him and assistant coach Sara Davis a chance to look things over and make adjustments before they enter the TSJC Tourney next month.
AS third quarter action took off the Lady Rams managed to outscore Raton by five in the third but as Coach Esparza noted the girls didn’t give up and kept the score close throughout. The Lady Tigers outscored the Lady Rams in the fourth by three but Cimarron was ahead by six. Once the buzzer sounded ending the game it was four point game and good learning experience for this young Raton Team.
