In Loving Memory of Ruby Bonds

Memorial services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, October 16, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Rick Enns, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Raton, NM. 

Ruby Bonds was born on March 6, 1927 in the Spurlock Community in Sherman County to Guy and Mary Sweny. She graduated from Stratford High School and attended college at West Texas Teachers College. She returned to Stratford and worked at the First State Bank of Stratford for seven years. She married Gene French in 1944 in Dalhart. In 1953 they moved to Raton, NM and lived there until Gene’s death in 1979. She was employed by La Mesa Park for 21 seasons. She also served as a substitute teacher for many years in the Raton school system. She moved to Amarillo in 1983 where she was employed with Garrison Legal Service and Panhandle Court Reporters. She married G. J. (Bus) Bonds in 1989. He preceded her in death in 1996. Ruby loved golf and bridge and was an avid reader. She also volunteered at Canyon Public Library. She loved being with her friends and family. Ruby was also preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Flo Hudson and Carol Kyle, and two brothers, Bill Sweny and Jim Sweny. 

Survivors include her children, Kelly Freeman and husband, John of Hideaway Lake, TX, Kyle French of Canyon, Linda Pratt and husband, Fred of Amarillo, Maureen Gill and husband, Randy of Grand Prairie; grandchildren, Casey Jones and wife, Shannon, Michael Gill, Jonathan Gill, Kelsy Pratt, and Morgan Pratt; and great grandchildren, Victoria Jones and Weston Jones. 

The family suggests memorials be to the First United Methodist Church, 1818 4th Avenue, Canyon, Texas 79015, or Hospice of the Southwest, 1301 S. Coulter Ste. 404, Amarillo, Texas 79106.
