Meredith Susan Hamilton, 60, of Trinidad, Colorado, formerly of Lafayette, Colorado passed away on October 11, 2014. Meredith, known as Sue by family and close friends, was born in Denver Colorado to Joyce Ellis Hamilton and Robert Douglas Hamilton on April 29, 1954.
Sue worked in accounting all her life. She completed an Associate of Arts degree in history at Arapahoe Community College and a Bachelor’s degree in accounting at the University of Phoenix. She worked for Montgomery Wards, for the Boulder Valley School District as an accounting assistant, and at Trinidad Junior College as a payroll administrator. Her accounting work was primarily in payroll and benefits, an area in which she was passionate and skilled. Sue was a member of the Flatirons Community Church in Lafayette and served on their greeter committee.
She loved meeting new people and she enjoyed growing and tending herbs, cooking, traveling with her family, history, watching sports, and was an avid softball player in Denver for many years. Her eldest niece described her Aunt Sue as “a fierce athlete, soulful musician, storyteller, keeper of memories, traditions and connections, and devoted daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend”. She devoted her love and attention to her two nieces and three nephews as they were growing up and they each have treasured memories of her singing to them, playing softball, and keeping up with their lives.
She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Hamilton of La Junta, Colorado. She is survived by her mother and brother, Joyce Hamilton and Tom Hamilton of La Junta, Colorado, a sister and brother-in-law, Vivian and Jerry Dawkins of Spring, Texas; two nieces, Stephanie Rust Tucker and her husband Jeff, of Kingwood, Texas and Katy Rust Curtiss and her husband Andy, of Houston, Texas; three nephews, Jake Hamilton and his wife, Cassi, of Los Angeles, California, Matt Hamilton and his wife, Rachel, of Lakewood, Colorado, and Taylor Hamilton and his wife Jennifer, of Parker, Colorado; and eight great-nieces and nephews.
Memorial Services will be held Friday October 17, 2014 at 2PM at the Comi Funeral Home Chapel, 1804 E. Main Street, Trinidad, CO, with Mr. Jerry Dawkins officiating.
Arrangements made under the direction of the Comi Funeral Home.
The family of Meredith Sue Hamilton wishes to thank our family and friends for their prayers and many acts of kindness.
Dear Joyce and Tom. I am so sorry to hear about Susan’s passing. I am sure that you are quite heartbroken. My deepest condolences. I am sure that my sisters and mom will be very sorry to hear about Susan. It hardly seems possible that we all grew up together and that Susan is no longer with us. Please feel free to contact me when you feel ready. Mary Gruda, Broomfield, CO
