Augustina (Tina) Abelina Almarez (Rivera), 62, of Trinidad, CO was born into this life on July 21, 1951 and entered unexpectedly into the next on July 5, 2014. A private Memorial Mass for family was celebrated by Father Robert Wedow of Sterling, CO, at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Trinidad, CO on July 10, 2014. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Robert Wedow on Monday October 6, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Trinidad Catholic Cemetery.
Memorials may be made in Tina’s honor to the Young Adult Ministry at Saint Anthony Catholic Church, 324 S. 3rd St. Sterling, CO.
Tina was born in Trinidad to Gloria (Bueno) and Mike Almarez. Tina graduated from Trinidad High School and attended Cosmetology School at Trinidad State Junior College. Tina worked at the Hoehne School in the cafeteria, the Lamar Senior Center in the kitchen, and owned a successful tire shop in Presidio, TX. Tina lived in Trinidad most of her life and spent some time in Presidio with Tom Rivera before she decided to come home to Colorado.
Tina liked to spend time with her beloved family, listen to music, watch movies, and take long drives to admire this beautiful country. Tina was a loving, caring, and nurturing mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt who selflessly gave of herself whenever she was needed and could be counted on to help on a moment’s notice.
Tina was preceded in death by her father Miguel (Mike) Anthony Almarez, her sister Jennie Garcia, and her husband Virgil Johns.
Tina is survived by her mother Gloria Almarez of Trinidad, CO; her son Michael Johns of Las Vegas, NV; daughter Samantha Wingert of Sterling, CO; son Juan Henry of Presidio, TX; former husband Samuel Henry of Trinidad, CO; grandchildren Austin, Jaeli, and Rayleen Johns of Las Vegas, NV; brother Rudy Villareal and wife Gloria of San Diego, CA; sister Alice Mitton and husband Jim of Longmont, CO; brother Anthony Almarez and wife Sharon of Pierce, NE; sister Anita (Chewy) Duran and husband Jim of Lamar, CO; brother Robert Almarez of Las Vegas, NV; brother Tommy Almarez and wife Marilyn of Trinidad, CO; brother Pat Almarez and wife Tina of Trinidad, CO; sister Louise Feagin of Pueblo, CO; sister Angela Almarez of Pueblo, CO; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
