ALBUQUERQUE, NM – 19 year-old Janna Mills of Eagle Nest, NM was crowned the 2015 State Fair Queen. She has served as a Colfax County Princess, Junior Queen, and Queen, and now has earned the title of overall New Mexico State Fair Queen as announced on Friday night, September 19th.
Janna attends the University of New Mexico where she is working toward a degree in Elementary Education and Special Education. She was born and raised in Eagle Nest and is a fourth generation resident of Colfax County. She is the daughter of Lee and Jackie Mills.
Riding horses is Janna’s passion and she would like to channel her love for horses into a mechanism to help kids learn and in particular those with special needs. She first became interested in the concept of horse therapy when her father, who is the Eagle Nest Elementary School principal, introduced the idea to his own students. Janna recently coordinated the first ever exceptional rodeo for kids with special needs in Colfax County. Janna’s sister, Ashley Rose, was crowned Miss Rodeo NM 2013. In the Colfax County Fair booklet, Janna thanked Joy Weisdorfer, Jeannie Barnes, the Colfax County Fair Board for the opportunity, her family for the love and unconditional support and her Lord Jesus for guiding her down this path.
Janna was selected based on receiving the highest combined scores considering a number of criteria such as horsemanship, personal interview, written test, on-stage presence, and speech.
