The young Lady Tigers team opened the volleyball season at home against the Roberston Lady Cardinals Saturday with new head coach Tamara Johnson at the helm with the help of her former coach Tina Dorrance.
The JV team struggled against the Lady Cardinals but had a solid performance but dropped both games 25-13 and 25-19.
The young varsity team only had one game they struggled in as they gave the Lady Cardinals a run for the money when they pulled out the third game. The Lady Tigers saw solid play from Kristina Jansen and Alina Pillmore at the net. Coach Johnson later commented on how sophomore Pillmore has really stepped up at the net. Daisy Earle also shined after she was placed in the libero position in the second game of the match.
Coach Johnson commented after the match that all the girls played well against a tough Robertson team. Raton was in every game except the second one where Robertson simply dominated the court. In game three the Lady Tigers took the lead and let it slip away to a tie at 22. The girls stuck to it and pulled it out 25-22. Again the Lady Tigers took the lead in game four but just couldn’t maintain it and dropped the game 25-18.
