Our mother, Donna Jean was born April 14, 1940 in Raton, New Mexico to Henry C. Stockton and Thelma Mae (Slater) Stockton. She passed away peacefully August 18, 2014 in Bountiful, Utah.
Donna and her sister Susie shared many happy memories growing up on the Stockton Ranch in Raton, New Mexico. As sisters they forged a bond and friendship that lasted a lifetime.
As a junior in High School she was the Kearny-Entrada Rodeo Princess. She was a member of the student council her senior year and was very active in many clubs and activities. She graduated with honors from Raton High school with her friends in the class of 1958. She then attended Colorado Women’s College in Denver, Colorado. She told us many stories about her friends and the fun they had during that time.
Donna married Douglas R. Hume on August 1, 1959 (divorced). Together 40 years, they raised 3 children. In life she was a homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt & friend.
Our memories of our mother growing up are happy ones. She spent many hours with us doing arts & crafts. She loved holidays and made them so fun. She was an avid reader, loved poetry and was a great cook. She instilled in us a joy of life, independence and taught us to embrace adventure. Our mom loved living in Bountiful (42 years) and had many friends. She was a member of the LDS Church.
In passing, she joins her father and mother; and daughter, Donna Sue.
She leaves her children: Dawn Cook (Craig) Bountiful, Utah, Dyan Sandell (Tim) Colorado, Douglas H. Hume (Christie) Bountiful; sister, Diana “Susie” Parker (Fred) Raton, New Mexico; grandchildren: Ciera Nay (Bobby), Danielle Rosebush (Kyle), Dallin Cook, Samantha Cook, Malory Cook, Audrey Sandell, Kendrick Hume, Erin Hume; great- grandchildren: Jack Nay, Cache Nay, Ellie Nay (who will join us any day); nieces: Debra Montoya (Mike), Becky Walker (Ernie). It was mom’s wish to be laid to rest in Raton New Mexico near her parents.
A graveside service will be held at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to Lindquist’s Bountiful Mortuary. Please share your memories online at www.lindquistmortuary.com
