Lorenzo Martinez, 91, cowboy, father, grandfather, brother, & friend went home to join his Lord on June 9, 2014. Lorenzo was born on September 7, 1922 in Des Moines, New Mexico. He leaves to cherish his memory his children: Lorenzo W. (Sue) Martinez and Catherine Martinez; his granddaughters: Jennifer, Nichole & Rose; and siblings: Fred Martinez, Joe Armijo, Tomasita Pacheco, Mary Chavez, Angie Chavez, Gloria Martinez, and Julia Espinonza. Lorenzo is preceded in death by his loving wife Jennie; father Luis Martinez; mother Maria Rita Armijo; stepfather Filadelfio Armijo; and brothers Leopoldo Martinez, Juan Martinez, Augustine Martinez, and Andy Armijo.
Lorenzo worked proudly for 42 years at the Pueblo Army Depot and made many live-long friends during his time there. The “Cowboy”, as his friends affectionately called him, truly lived the cowboy lifestyle in his years of growing up as a ranch hand in Northern New Mexico. He always had interesting stories to share of his true Wild West experiences within the Miami Mesa & Moreno Valley. His great pride of New Mexico stuck with him throughout his life, as he greatly enjoyed returning there regularly to visit family & friends.
Lorenzo was an incredible man who truly exemplified the values he lived by: honor, hard work & loyalty. His dedication to his country by serving in the United States Army during World War II at the US Philippine Liberation brought great honor to Lorenzo & his family. Lorenzo helped support his family from a young age working at ranches throughout New Mexico which he always said brought him the best education he could have asked for at the time. His strong dedication to family, work, & church is something that was seen by all. The happiest times in his life though were those spent with his family, including his loving wife, kids and very special granddaughters.
