The small northeastern New Mexico community of Roy was shocked last January after Geraldine Ray was found dead in the home that she shared with her daughter, Donna Ray. Now Donna Ray (68) is facing an open charge of first-degree murder, according to court records.
The death was ruled suspicious at the time and further investigation awaited on the results of the autopsy. The autopsy report revealed bruising to the back of both shoulders this would indicate some form of force was used against Geraldine. This raised suspicion to the fact Donna told police that her mother killed herself. Geraldine was found with pieces of cotton up her nose and tape over her mouth.
Investigators indicated that Donna Ray was uncooperative with them and avoided officers saying what was the point in meeting.
Ray was being held at the Quay County Detention Center but was released on a secured $50,000 property bond. The criminal complaint was filed in Harding County Magistrate Court in Roy on April 10.
