New Mexico State Police Investigate Fatal Crash in Colfax County
Colfax County- On April 14, 2014 at about 10:54 p.m. New Mexico State Police responded to Highway 21 at about the 26 mile marker to the report of a crash.
The investigation revealed a 2002 Buick car was traveling east on Highway 21 when the driver swerved to avoid an animal in the road. The driver lost control of the vehicle and left the roadway, which caused the vehicle to roll. The driver and front seat passenger were ejected. A third passenger was not.
The driver, identified as Judy Varela, 58, of Albuquerque, NM was pronounced deceased at the scene. The passengers, Moises Ortiz and Louie Varela were both injured.
Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in this crash.
