Raton City Commission Meeting on 3/5/2014

The Raton City Commission held a special meeting on Wednesday, March 5.  The published agenda included a scheduled closed executive session to conduct interviews with two Raton city employees who applied for the city manager opening.  After an hour and 20 minutes, the Commission convened in open session to determine what course of action to take.  The motion was made and passed to further open up the search to  Raton, Colfax County and NM  Municipal League Members.  Commissioner Sandy Mantz told KRTN that the commission felt the pool of possibilities needed to be expanded, but that did not mean the two already interviewed were eliminated from consideration.

The commission, with its two newest members;  Don Giacomo and Ron Chavez, who  were included in the closed executive session,  will be charged with the task of finding a city manager to replace outgoing Butch McGowan.

Prior to the special meeting, the city’s municipal election results were canvassed and declared official
