Colfax County- On January 17, 2013 at approximately 1:15 p.m. New Mexico State Police responded to a report of a one vehicle crash on Interstate 25 at milepost 419.
The investigation revealed the vehicle was northbound in the northbound lanes. It drifted off the Interstate to the left, crossed the median, crossed both lanes of southbound Interstate 25 and impacted the concrete pillar supporting the overpass at the 419 exit. Shortly after impact, the vehicle caught fire.
The driver of the vehicle has been identified as Wayne Francis Janish, 63, of Strasburg, Co. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
Alcohol does not appear to be a factor at this point.
The New Mexico Department of Transportation was summoned to the scene and inspected the pillar that was impacted. It did not appear to have sustained any damage. Further inspection will be done to ensure it is safe.
