Onesimo Esquibel, age 90, died Tuesday, January 14, 2014 in Clayton, New Mexico.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, January 18th at the Clayton Gospel Church in Clayton, New Mexico with Pastor Mike Phipps officiating. Services are under the direction of Hass Funeral Directors of Clayton, New Mexico.
Onesimo Esquibel was born on December 17, 1923 in Sabinoso, New Mexico to Florencio Esquibel and Escolastica (Sandoval) Esquibel. He served two years in the US Army during WWII in Germany and Austria where he fought under George Patton. When he returned he ran the family ranch for several years until he went to work for the highway department in 1956 and retired in 1986. He continued to ranch during that time and also cowboyed in Wyoming and Montana. Onesimo married Mary (Griego) Esquibel on June 3, 1959 in Roy, New Mexico and she preceded him in death on September 2, 2011. He lived in Roy, New Mexico most of his life until they moved to Clayton in 1995. In addition to his wife and parents, Onesimo was preceded in death by 2 step-sons; Ricardo Alderette and Eloy Alderette, a son-in-law; Carlos Sandoval on December 1, 2013, 4 brothers; George Esquibel, Fidel Esquibel, Secundino Esquibel and Carlos Esquibel and 2 sisters; Fedelina Romero and Magdelina Gallegos.

2 DAUGHTERS: Sharon Sandoval of Clayton, New Mexico and Nancy Valdez of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
1 STEP-DAUGHTER: Carolyn Baca and her husband Gilbert of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
1 BROTHER: Florencio “Lencho” Esquibel of Roy, New Mexico.
13 GRANDCHILDREN: Richard Sandoval and his wife Anita, Shannon Ronquillo and her husband Nick, Toby Esquibel, Monica Valdez and Marissa Valdez, Timothy Alderette, Anita Alderette and Perry Cordova, Carla Navarette and her husband Rick, Gilbert Baca and his wife Kathy, Edward Baca and his wife Ann, David Baca, Doreen Burbridge and her husband John, Cindy Crawford and her husband John.
