A fiery two vehicle accident occurred about 10 miles east of Des Moines on New Year’s day sending four individuals to the hospital.
A Pickup pulling a camper trailer was traveling west on US 64/87 when it crossed the median and went into eastbound lanes and struck a Cadillac SUV pretty much head on. The pickup and camper turned over onto its driver’s side and caught fire. The pickup and trailer burned completely while the Cadillac SUV was a total loss.
All occupants were transported by ambulance from the scene and were taken to Union County General Hospital and later transported to Amarillo. The extent of injuries were unknown.
According to State Police occupants of the vehicles were;
Cadillac SUV:
Driver: Marvin Novak, 74, Woodhaven TX
Passenger: Shirley Novak, 62, Woodhaven TX
Pickup pulling camper:
Driver: Adelido Maestas, 66, Commerce City, CO
Passenger: Donna Maestas, 70, Commerce City, CO
My heart goes out to the Novak family, thank you for being so kind when it came to the accident. My granny lost her life, but your family has lost so much too. I hope these words reach you and know I pray for you family and I am so sorry for your hardships that you have endured. God bless
