Earlene Garcia
(May 15, 1925 – December 5, 2013)
Cremation has taken place. A rosary will be said at 7:00 PM MST on Friday, December 13, 2013 and a Mass at 10:00 AM MST on Saturday, December 14, 2013 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Clayton, NM with Fr. Joel Bugas officiating.
Earlene Juanita Montoya was born May 15, 1925 in Roy, NM to Andres and Rita (Gallegos) Montoya. She was the oldest of 15 children. Earlene lived in Clayton most of her life and was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church where she served on the Alter society. Earlene was a member of St. Anthony’s of Padua Catholic Church of Dalhart. She was strong in her faith and served and loved her Lord to the end.
When Earline was young she worked in Sidney, Nebraska counting ammunition during WWII. She moved to Clayton in 1946, met Emilio and on August 9th, 1947 they were married.
Earlene and Emilio will be most remembered by the fruits of their labor. In 1970 they bought a bakery and named it Emil’s after Emilio. When you went to buy cookies, etc. you hoped to be waited on by the Master Baker himself, for only then would you get “a Baker’s Dozen”
Earlene is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and eleven siblings.
Her survivors include two daughters: Gloria Rice of Clayton, NM and Lillian Atchley of Las Vegas, NV. Two brothers: Don Montoya of Pueblo, CO and Johnny Montoya of Las Vegas, NV, and one sister Carmen Lucero and her husband Joe of Pueblo, CO.
She is also survived by 7 grandchildren: Shannon and Jesse Torres of Dalhart, TX, Ginger and John Trujillo, Samantha and Clifford Hawk all of Clayton,, NM, Rena and Michael Tucker of Naples, FL, Tanya Bergeron of Amarillo, TX, Bobbie Holland of Salina, KS, Kimberly Morgan of Las Vegas, NV and One Grandson – Christopher Parrish of Grapevine, TX 19 Great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
The Family will be gathering at 805 West Ave., Clayton, NM starting Friday morning.
