K-Mart receives Bomb Threat

At approximately 3:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon the K-Mart store in Raton received a call from an unknown male that indicated there was a bomb in the store. According to Raton Police Chief Terry Sisneros the caller gave no time or other information about the device.

Employees evacuated the store and Raton Police, Colfax County Sheriff and New Mexico State Police cordoned off the area. A store manager and police officers then reentered the store to search the building and determine if anything looked out of place.

According to Chief Sisneros the protocol is to have a manager and officers search the store and if anything suspicious is found then the bomb squad would be called in.

About 4:10 p.m. officers and the store manager exited the store indicated that nothing suspicious was found.
