Raton Lady Tigers travelled down I-25 to West Las Vegas for their second game in the District Tourney as they took Taos in three on Wednesday night.
Game one was a classic Raton v West volleyball game as they both played hard both at the net with blocks and spikes and in the back court fielding those kills. The volleys went long and exciting as the score remained tied well into the game. By about midway in the game Raton caught a break and made good on it by getting points off a couple of kills by Mikala Vertovec and the Dorrance Twins. Raton pulled out and finally took the game 25-19.
Game two was another tight game until mistakes allowed West to get the points lead. Celeste Trujillo and Caelin Bustos played net well making the blocks while Trujillo made several kills for points as West spread out the lead. Then Raton found a spark and took a 24-13 score down to a 24-19 score before West finally put it away.
Game three saw West take the early lead but Raton battled back and came to within a point at 15-14 and 16-15. West then found the muscle and pulled it on out for the win.
As the frustration set in for Raton in game four West took the lead and made good with it. They worked it hard and pulled out a 25-18 score for the win and to move on to play Pojoaque for first place in District 2AAA.
Raton will now wait to see if they are invited to the State Tourney. The list for that will come out probably after meetings on Sunday.
