A teenager who spent some of her youth in Raton died in a single-vehicle accident near Logan
in east-central New Mexico Sunday evening, November 3rd. The rollover accident also left another
passenger dead while the driver survived.
State Police reported Adrienne Trujillo, 19, of Clayton, a former Raton resident,
and Padyn Reanell Hughes, 20, of Bovina, Texas, died in the Sunday accident that occurred
shortly before 6 p.m. on N.M. 469. Trujillo and Hughes were not wearing seat belts,
were ejected from the 2003 Chevrolet SUV, and died at the scene, according to State Police.
Trujillo, who would have turned 20 on Nov. 29, is survived by her family in Clayton, which includes a sister,
a brother, grandparents and her parents, Albert and Alicia Trujillo. A Rosary is scheduled in Clayton for
Thursday night while funeral services will take place Friday morning. (See obituary for details.)
Trujillo grew up in several New Mexico communities, including Raton, before her family moved to Clayton,
where she spent her high school years.
State Police reported the SUV in which Trujillo was riding went off the east side of the road and rolled twice.
Investigators said alcohol was not a factor in the accident. The cause of the accident was
not determined as of Tuesday morning, Nov. 5th.
The driver of the vehicle, Marisa Cruz, 19, of Clovis, was transported to a hospital for non-threatening
injuries, according to State Police.
