SERVICES: Graveside services will be at 10:00 AM Mountain Time, Wednesday, October 16, at the Kenton Cemetery in Kenton, Oklahoma. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 P.M. at the First United Methodist Church in Clayton with Rev. Jay Jones, pastor  officiating.  Arrangement are under the direction of Hass Funeral Directors of Clayton, New Mexico. BACKGROUND: Shirley Briant was born on November 24, 1930 on the Wiggins Ranch in Union County, New Mexico to George H. Wiggins and Margaret C. (Easley) Wiggins. She attended school in Clayton and Raton and graduated from High School in Raton and then attended college in Chickasha, Oklahoma. She married Bill Briant on January 30, 1964 in Boise City, Oklahoma and he preceded her in death on September 9, 2004. They lived in Amarillo, Texas and then in Shallowater, Texas where she worked at the First State Bank before moving to the family ranch near Kenton, Oklahoma in 1978. They later moved to Clayton, New Mexico in 1985 where she worked at the Farmers and Stockmans Bank. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Clayton. Shirley loved to cook for her family and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Shirley was preceded in death by 2 sons; Richard Earl Briant as an infant and William Briant, a daughter; Bobbie Jean Carter, 2 sisters; Georgia Maxwell and Eula Lee Davis, a brother, James Albert “Jimmy” Wiggins and a son-in-law; Lloyd Shuffield.

 

SURVIVORS:

 

3 DAUGHTERS: Joy Shuffield of Amarillo, Texas. Ramona Rollins and her husband Jimmy of Amarillo, Texas and Gayle Owens and her husband Buz of Gatesville, Texas.

 

2 SONS: George Briant and his wife Beth of Canadian, Texas and Scott Briant of Dalhart, Texas.

 

1 DAUGHTER-IN-LAW: Ruth Briant of Amarillo, Texas.

 

1 BROTHER: Jack Wiggins of Kenton, Oklahoma.

 

18 Grandchildren

 

32 Great-Grandchildren
