Bessie J. Jackson age 81 passed away on September 4, 2013 in Raton at the MCMC Long Term Care facility. She was a lifelong resident of Raton and in 2009 became a resident of the MCMC Long Term Care Facility.
Bessie was born in Springer, NM to Robert E. and Myrtle E. Baca Buttram on July 10, 1932. Bessie was a 1950 graduate of Dawson High School in Dawson, NM. She and her husband Jack Jackson moved to Denver, CO for a short period of time where Bessie worked for Gates Rubber Company.
In 1962 or 1963 Bessie and her husband Jack and Daughter Mikalene moved back to Raton where Bessie worked for Dixion & Waller United until she retired at age 62. After she retired Bessie enjoyed gardening, playing music, and spending time with family and grandson Lee.
Bessie could play a number of different instruments and when the family reunion came around they always had a big jam session.
Bessie is preceded in death by her parents, husband Jack M. Jackson, grandson Lee M. Towndrow and two sisters Nysa and Myrtle.
Bessie is survived by daughter Mikalene R. Towndrow and husband Ron of Raton, two brothers Robert Buttram and wife Bonnie of Belen, NM and John Buttram of Pueblo, Colorado, one sister Phyllis Pia and husband David of Pensacola, Florida, numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
The family of Bessie J. Jackson would like to thank the staff of the MCMC Long Term Care Facility for the wonderful care she received as a resident. In Lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the MCMC Long Term Care Facility in Bessie’s name.
There will be a visitation for Bessie on Friday September 13th from 1pm to 4pm in the chapel of the Alderette Pomeroy Funeral Home. A graveside service will take place on Saturday September 14th at 10:30 am at the Fairmont Cemetery with Pastor Mark Crowginger officiating. A dinner will follow at the First Baptist Church.
