Billy,
I sincerely want to congratulate you for being a local radio hero.
My name is Larry Ahrens and I have worked in radio in NM for over 30 years in both Roswell and Albuquerque. Most notably, I hosted mornings on 770 KKOB Albuquerque from 1980 to 2007.
My wife and I were driving to Denver on June 11 early Saturday morning and we found your show. It was by far the best local radio I’ve heard in some time. You’re doing just what your broadcast license says you should do – serve your local community.
Then the following afternoon driving home, the highway sign in Trinidad told us I-25 was closed due to wildfire. My wife immediately hit the radio—and there you were again giving us very dramatic eyewitness accounts of the fire and providing listeners with up to the minute information. The broadcast I heard was compelling, immediate and very moving. Needless to say, we had to spend the night in Trinidad and find an alternative way home on Monday.
It’s great to know that local radio still matters in this state and you demonstrated great skill and passion for serving your community on KRTN. My congratulations and I wanted you to know that your good work did not go unnoticed.
