Miner’s Colfax Medical Center in south Raton went on lock down late Friday morning Feb., 23rd after receiving a threat by telephone to the facility and as KRTN has learned Union County General Hospital, Clayton Public Schools and Des Moines Schools were also put on lock down from threats on Friday.

According to UnderSheriff Leonard Baca, Raton Police Chief John Garcia had notified them that they had a suspect and a warrant had been issued for the arrest. Deputies then converged on a residence in Springer where the suspect was believed to be staying with his mother. Deputies learned that the suspect had been picked up and taken to Santa Fe where he was to catch the Railrunner back to Albuquerque. According the Baca the individual was arrested in Albuquerque which confirms what KRTN learned from MCMC Security spokesman Eric Armstrong that the individual who made the threat to MCMC was arrested in Albuquerque. Is this threat associated with other threats being made through social media networks? So far KRTN has been unable to obtain details of the investigation to determine the extent of who is involved and where else threats were made.

KRTN has learned that Floyd Florencio Aguilar was arrested for making threats to MCMC Friday evening.

KRTN has also learned that the threats that locked down facilities in Union County were directed at Union no specific name to indicate a specific location. Officials in Union County took the precaution to lock down the hospital and schools until it was determined there was no threat locally. Homeland Security finally identified that the threat was directed at Union Oklahoma.

KRQE news in Albuquerque has posted stories on their web page about numerous threats being made to schools in New Mexico since the Florida shooting. So far seven arrests have been made in those threat investigations. All of the suspects arrested have been teenagers of the various schools targeted. So far the students arrested in the cases will be facing felony charges for making false threats.

This is an ongoing story so stay tuned to KRTN for updates as we get them.

In conjunction with the Des Moines Schools lockdown, KRTN received an update letter from Superintendent Kodi Sumpter.

 February 23, 2018

Dear Families,

As you know from the all call, we had a lockdown today. This was a real threat that began in Clayton. Des Moines went in lockdown as a precaution recommended by Union County Emergency Manager. It was a good test of our system and our safety plan. Our teachers, staff and students knew how to respond appropriately. An important reminder that in emergencies pleases do not tie up cell phones and phone lines. They are needed for emergency personnel. Trust that we are doing our best to protect your child and will notify you as soon as appropriate through the all call system. We ask students and staff not to text/call during these situations unless it is emergency/ procedure related to communicate with administration or emergency personnel. We greatly appreciate the quick response and professionalism of the local emergency personnel. As a team we continue to prepare for emergencies to protect our most valuable asset…..the children of this school district.

Sincerely,

Kodi Sumpter
