Breckenridge man alleged in Trinidad and Bent County robberies faces charges

WJ  250x55TRINIDAD — The man alleged to have committed robberies in both Bent County and Trinidad made his appearance in District Court in Las Animas County Wednesday, Dec. 23. He is charged with 6 felony counts and four misdemeanor counts. 
Alfredo Valazquez-Hernandez is being charged with a string of robberies and several assaults starting in Breckenridge and ending in Trinidad. The most serious charges are aggravated robbery and first degree burglary. He also faces one count of theft, one count of aggravated motor vehicle theft, menacing, and  possession of a weapon by a previous offender. 
The felony charges arise from the theft of two vehicles in Trinidad along with breaking into a residence and taking a handgun and jewelry, and using the gun while committing another theft.  
Valazquez-Hernandez is also charge with four misdemeanors involving restraining his victims, or false imprisonment, child abuse (two counts), and reckless endangerment. These charges stem from his actions that began in Breckenridge, where he had a domestic dispute with the mother of the two children that were with him at the time of his arrest in Trinidad. 
The two children were taken from their mother who lives in Breckinridge. They are a female age 4, and a male age 3. Valazquez-Hernandez states that he is the father of the two.
He is also charged with a misdemeanor count of carrying a concealed weapon.
Valazquez-Hernandez, has been positively identified by the three victims that he approached in Trinidad. The vehicles that were taken along with the jewelry and the handgun have also been identified by two of the victims. The jewelry, and the Yukon SUV were valued for a total of $33,370. Other items removed from the suspect by sheriff’s deputies at the time of his arrest were $120 in cash, and a Visa debit card which may possibly be from the Bent County robbery.
The two children were taken to the Sheriff’s Office and then to the Department of Human Services who took temporary custody of them.
