VA Clinic Cuts the Ribbon

Today was a special day for veterans in northeastern New Mexico as the new VA Clinic was officially dedicated and opened to the public at a ribbon cutting ceremony this morning.

It took over six years to get the project completed. The project started with the help of Retired General Gene Sisneros and former Senator Jeff Bingaman who worked together to get the necessary ground work in place and to start to clear the way for funding the project. Senators Tom Udall and Martin Heinrich along with Congressman Ben Ray Lujan continued on with securing the funding and making sure the project was completed. According to Congressman Ban Ray Lujan there wasn’t a phone call that went by that Sisneros didn’t remind the New Mexico delegation of the importance of getting this project done.

The importance of the clinic was mentioned several times especially in light of traveling to Albuquerque to seek medical services. Today this clinic will bring that care to Raton and the surrounding area it will also bring forth video medical services where in help from a doctor or specialist in a far away location can be part of the diagnosis and treatment for veterans.

As Congressman Lujan mentioned it is a good day. A good day indeed for veterans who have served this country and deserve the medical services they require.
