{"id":32905,"date":"2017-03-10T00:02:39","date_gmt":"2017-03-10T07:02:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/krtnradio.com\/?p=32905"},"modified":"2017-03-11T18:11:36","modified_gmt":"2017-03-12T01:11:36","slug":"maxwell-finishes-strong-to-earn-state-championship-berth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/krtnradio.com\/wp\/2017\/03\/10\/maxwell-finishes-strong-to-earn-state-championship-berth\/","title":{"rendered":"Maxwell Finishes Strong to Earn State Championship Berth"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Maxwell Bears outhustled and Kolten Riggs outmuscled the Melrose Buffaloes to earn a decisive 68-50 semifinal win and a trip to the Pit in Albuquerque for a shot at a Boys Class A NM State Championship.<\/p>\n<p>The Bears started hot with Karl Gonzales hitting three of his seven three-pointers in the first period and Riggs pulling down defensive rebounds to stake the Bears to a 21-12 advantage after the first 8 minutes.\u00a0 Gonzales would hit 7 of 12 three point attempts for the game\u00a0and wind up with 26 points. \u00a0Riggs, a freshman,\u00a0hauled down a total of 18 rebounds, blocked four shots, scored 20 points including three threes\u00a0and\u00a0for the most part, held Melrose&#8217;s big man, Jordan Jasso, in check\u00a0scoring 17.<\/p>\n<p>Aaron Salazar scored eight of his 10 points in the fourth quarter to help Maxwell turn back a second half rally as Melrose tied it at 38-all and was only down six going into the last period.
