Some 39 brave souls took the challenge this year at Lake Maloya and jumped into the ice cold waters that Park Superintendent Bob MacGyver jokingly called a warm 68 degrees.<\/p>\n

It was questionable if it was going to be a jump or a run into the water as ice conditions a week before the plunge were iffy at about 5 inches with some open spots on the lake. By Jump time the water had formed a good six inch\u00a0plus\u00a0layer of ice making it a jump into the water for the fourth annual polar bear plunge at Lake Maloya.<\/p>\n

There were some participants who traveled from as far away as Amarillo and Austin Texas while others made their second or third jump.<\/p>\n
