 <\/p>\n

The official 4A District 2 tournament results. \u00a0On April 29-30 Tiger Tennis teams traveled to Las Vegas to battle Robertson, Taos, & West Las Vegas to try and earn a berth in the State Playoffs in Albuquerque.\u00a0 Powerhouse Robertson Cardinals continue to dominate class 4A as prohibitive state championship favorites so the battle was for 2nd<\/sup>\u00a0and which team would get a possible \u00a0at large birth to the State tournament.\u00a0 The results were as follows.<\/p>\n

Team Play:<\/p>\n

Robertson Cardinals\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Champions\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 1st<\/sup>\u00a0seed at State<\/p>\n

Raton Tigers \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 2nd<\/sup>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 6th<\/sup>\u00a0seed at State will face St. Michaels<\/p>\n

With team results decided the action moved to individual Singles and individual doubles tournament action and who would be crowned as individual district champions.\u00a0 Both had some very exciting matches as in individual singles play Raton Tigers Autumn Archuleta brought home the Championship medal for the Raton Tigers \u00a0and earned a 6 seed at the State tournament.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

After a relatively easy opening match in which Autumn beat WLV 6-0, 6-1 she moved on into the semi\u2019s to face Taos\u2019 C. Dimond.\u00a0 After dropping the 1st<\/sup>\u00a0set to Dimond 6-7 Autumn rallied to come back and win the 2nd<\/sup>\u00a0set 7-6, and 3rd set 6-4 to make it into the finals where she met up with Robertson\u2019s Marrujo.\u00a0 Similar to the semi\u2019s Autumn lost the 1st<\/sup>\u00a0set 6-7 only to come back and take set 2 & 3, 6-4, 6-2 to become the 4A \u00a0District 2 Singles Champion!<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In doubles play the team of Alee Bird\/Brittani Fleming faced some tough competition from the top doubles team in 4A from two sets of Fulghenzi\u00a0 sisters who are favored to place 1st<\/sup>\u00a0and 2nd<\/sup>\u00a0at this year\u2019s State tournament. \u00a0When the dust settled Bird\/Fleming found themselves in the 3rd<\/sup>\u00a0place where they matched up against R6-2, 7-5 obertson\u2019s Sena\/Trujillo.\u00a0 After a tough semi\u2019s loss to one set of the Fulghenzi sister\u2019s where they lost 0-6, 0-6 Bird\/Fleming redeemed themselves to win 3rd<\/sup>\u00a0place with a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Sena\/Trujillo and earn an at large berth in the doubles tournaments.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

On the boys side DJ Bird, Blaze Garcia, and Samuel Perez all participated in singles tournament action with the best place finish was 4th<\/sup>\u00a0by DJ Bird.\u00a0 The boys did not have enough participants so they were unable to compete in team play.<\/p>\n
