It was a cold and damp day at Gabriele Field as the Raton Tigers finally found their way home after almost a month on the road and home they made it as they split a double header with Clayton Tuesday.<\/p>\n

The afternoon started out cool and damp as a light rain and sleet fell on the field for a short time. Showers would continue off and one during the first half of the game before the sun finally made an appearance for more than a couple of minutes. By the time the second game started the clouds had moved on to the east and Raton was left with cooler temperatures to finish out game two.<\/p>\n

It was a slow start for both teams but Raton finally took the lead in the second with one run and another in the third. It would be the fifth inning before Clayton would hang one on the\u00a0board and then tie the game at two. Raton responded in the bottom of the fifth with two of their own to take the lead back.<\/p>\n

In the sixth however Clayton would hang another run on the board and then hold Raton scoreless. Clayton then went on to make a three run rally and take the lead back in the top of the seventh. Raton could only muster a single run in the bottom of the seventh falling short of the win at 5-6.<\/p>\n

Raton made up for the errors they made in the first game and dominated the second game after allowing Clayton to put the first run on the board. Raton then held Clayton scoreless the rest of the game while they racked up the runs. Clayton pitchers also had trouble in the second game not helping the situation as several Raton batters made it to first on balls.<\/p>\n

Raton even scored a run on a bizarre play where the Clayton pitcher walked a batter with Cole Medina on third and another runner on second. Apparently Medina must have thought the bases were loaded and he trotted off toward home plate. Clayton players must have been asleep as Medina made it about half way home the crowd started yelling to tag him. Medina took off running and beat the ball home for a Raton run.<\/p>\n
